I’m a professor in the School of Information at the University of Arizona in Tucson. I have a PhD in Library and Information Science from the University of Texas. My book, Not Free, Not for All: Public Libraries in the Age of Jim Crow (University of Massachusetts Press, 2015) won the Eliza Atkins Gleason Book Award from the Library History Round Table of the American Library Association and the Lillian Smith Book Award jointly presented by the Southern Regional Council and the University of Georgia Libraries.

The photo was taken at the Tucson Festival of Books; I’m the one on the left.
